Corn oil comes from maize, or corn, and traditionally comes from Mexico, where it has been used for centuries.

Corn oil lowers total cholesterol, and is highly refined oil with a medium texture. Corn oil has a mild scent and flavor, and is commonly used in cooking.

Corn oil is often used as an emollient in cosmetics, and will make home give home made lotions and creams a thick, rich texture.

Corn oil is a convenient and inexpensive oil to use in home made cosmetics. You can find it in your local grocery store for fewer than three dollars, and you can use it your cosmetic recipes to revitalize dry skin. Corn oil also contains vitamin E, which is beneficial to skin regeneration.

Corn oil is works well as a base for massage oils, and carries the scents well. Corn oil is also used in baby lotions and washes, and is very gentle on the skin.

The recipes below are all beneficial to the skin, and will brighten and revitalize dry dull skin.

Revitalizing Face Mask

  • First, you need to mix the following:
  • 2 ounces green clay
  • 3 tablespoons corn flour

Mix well in a bowl. These two ingredients make a basic face mask, and can be used on normal skin. For dry skin, you should mix the following in a separate bowl:

  • 1 teaspoon basic face mask
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon corn oil
  • 2 drops almond oil
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1 drop each rose and chamomile essential oils

This recipe will moisturize dry skin, as well as brighten the complexion. You can substitute the essential oil for any that you choose; however, some citrus oils can make the skin susceptible to sunburn. Be careful when using orange or lemon essential oils on the face, and use sunscreen before staying in the sun for prolonged periods of time.

Cuticle Massage Oil

  • 2 ml jojoba oil
  • 2 ml corn oil
  • 2 drops lemon essential oil
  • 2 drops sandal wood essential oil
  • 2 drops tea tree oil
  • 2 drops benzoin absolute resin
  • 10 drops vitamin E

Mix all ingredients well. Apply 2 drops of the mixture to each nail, and 4 drops to each hand. Massage hands to stimulate circulation and relax hands.

Herbal Body Wrap

  • 1 cup corn oil
  • ½ cup grapefruit juice
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Combine all ingredients, massage into skin. Use a towel to wrap skin after applying to maintain body heat. Additionally, you can apply heat to areas by using a heating pad on the area for five minutes at a time, being careful not to burn skin.

This body wrap rejuvenates the skin, and the great citrus scent invigorates. This recipe would make a fabulous spa day at home, is inexpensive, and will pamper the skin.
