The Benefits of Poppy Seed Oil in Home Made Cosmetics

The properties of poppy seed oil are similar to those in hemp seed oil. It is a great oil to use as a base ingredient for home made massage oil recipes because of the ability that poppy seed oil possesses to treat many kinds of muscular pain, rheumatic pain, arthritis pain, and even more severe cases of pain including discopathy and sciatica.

Try this massage oil recipe for a relaxing rejuvenation. (This recipe also makes for a great body oil for a man due to the earthy aroma and soothing qualities.)

Body Rub Oil

  • 1 ounce jojoba oil
  • 1 ½ ounces sweet almond oil
  • ½ ounce poppy seed oil
  • 10 drops sandalwood essential oil
  • 20 drops lime essential oil
  • 10 drops vetiver essential oil

Combine the essential oils in a small glass bottle and allow to sit and mellow together over the process of about 2 or 3 days. (It's well worth the wait!) Periodically shake gently to assure they mix together properly.

Add the sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and poppy seed oil in a separate bottle (that you plan to use for storage and dispensing) and shake to blend then add the combined essential oils. Shake gently to mix all the oils together.

This oil can actually be used as a massage oil or be self applied after a bath or shower (while the body is still damp) for a pleasant smelling and calming skin treatment. It will store for about 6 months, and you can help the body rub oil from spoiling too quickly by refrigerating when not being used. Discard when the aroma turns sour.

Poppy seed oil is great to use as a treatment for headaches, nervous tension, sexual dysfunction, pain relief, and as a sedative for problems with insomnia.

This multi purpose oil is rich in alkaloids, calcium, and protein so it is also very popular to use as an ingredient for home made soap recipes as well as balms, lip treatment, and hair conditioners,
